Birth weights are said to be variable according to the race, parity, age, socioecomic status and many other factors of their parents as well as duration of gestation and sex of the fetus. Features specific to the locality are, therefore, not to be underestimated.
Observations on the birth weights in Daejeon area were made with the following results:
1. The mean birth weight for the 40 weeks was 3208.1 ¡¾ 326.4 gm and it was 3258. 1 ¡¾ 428. 8 gm for 39 through 41 weeks.
2. The birth weights were increasing with the parity of the mother, but somewhat de-creasing for the multiparty of 4 or more.
3. Deliveries were most prevalent in the age group 26 to 30.
4, The birth weights were increasing with the age of the mother, but somewhat decr-easing for the age group 41 to 45.
5. The mean birth weight for the male was 3286. ¡¾ 432. 9 gm, while 3180. 0 ¡¾ 437.8 gm for the female, the sexual difference being 106.9 gm.
